We honestly can’t remember the last time Team USA went home with zero wins after the first round of the FIVB World League. The 2008 and 2014 World League Champions struggled in all 3 matches against Canada (2-3), Serbia (1-3) and Belgium (1-3).
Take note, Matt Anderson, Max Holt, David Lee and Aaron Russell did not play and may skip the entire tournament to take a break.
After losing their match against Belgium, Coach Speraw remains optimistic.
“The only way to get better is to play under stress. We have a lot of new players, it is a process. We learned a lot here, we’ll see if we can make the most of it over the next couple of weeks.” -Coach John Speraw
On a positive note, Ben Patch could be the other opposite player Team USA needs for Tokyo 2020 if he continues to develop.
The 20 year old outside hitter TJ DeFalco looks promising but there’s something about his attitude on the court that bothers us. He always seems mad or something but we forgive him since this is his national team debut.
What’s next for Team USA?
They will play against Italy, Russia and hosts France this coming weekend.
