He’s such a great young player!
He totally reminds us of Matt Anderson when he was still in college. Skinny & has a high vertical to go along with great all around skills. Last season, Taytay was named as MPSF’s Freshman of the Year and he continues to display a solid game in his sophomore year with the BYU Cougars.
More More More About Taylor! We found this article which shares some interesting facts about the 6’4 outside hitter.
On how he ended up playing in BYU despite getting a lot of offers from other top universities in the US & the best thing about being at BYU:
“Growing up in Huntington Beach (Calif.) I’ve always been a big BYU fan. I grew up LDS and with my parents being LDS, that was the school we always cheered for and I’ve always wanted to go to BYU since I was a kid.
Everyone is real mature here and goal-oriented. There aren’t the distractions (at BYU) to distract you from reaching your goals and being the best person you can be. I love that we can represent the church here and that we live by the standards of the church. It’s an amazing environment.”
On his vertical leap:
“I’ve been measured at jumping as high as 42 or 43 inches. When I’m playing in the Smith Fieldhouse I think that adds two or three inches to my vertical with how pumped up I get with the crowd.”
His goals this season:
“The team goal at BYU is to always win a national championship. Our big goals as a team are to stick together and work hard and stick to the principles we’ve set — all of that will help us be successful. For me, I just want to be a leader and make sure that I give my best effort in every practice and in every game.”
We can totally sense how much he loves the sport.
In case you didn’t know, Sander was named as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s Player Of The Week for 2 consecutive weeks so far this season. He really has a bright future ahead of him. Maybe we’d see him at the 2016 Olympics? We have a feeling we will! As a reminder, make sure don’t play too much volleyball Taytay and forget to prioritize your studies unlike last year. Hahaha! Kidding! Kidding!
We wish Sander and the BYU Cougars the best this season!
