Brenda Castillo made the team! Yay!
The Dominican Republic is in Pool A and will fight to finish in the top 4 spots to qualify for the Quarterfinals. They will play against Russia, Italy, Japan, Great Britain and Algeria. On paper, Dominicap Republic has a high chance of advancing to the next round but for sure it won’t be easy.
After a miscarriage more than a month ago, we’re glad to see Castillo on the roster. Coach Kwiek’s will rely on the heavy hitting of Bethania Dela Cruz plus the experience of Annerys Vargas, Milagros Cabral and Priscilla Rivera.
The following 12 athletes will represent Dominican Republic at the 2012 London Olympics:
Setters: Karla Echenique, Nivelka Marte
Outside Hitters: Bethania De La Cruz, Priscilla Rivera, Milagros Cabral
Middle Blockers: Annerys Vargas, Eve Mejia, Candida Arias, Cindy Rondon
Opposite Hitters: Gina Mambru, Sidarka Nunez
Libero: Brenda Castillo
In case you didn’t know, Dominican Republic last appeared in the Olympics 8 years ago during the 2004 Athens Olympics. One of the highlights was when they defeated the #1 ranked team USA in an epic 5 set match.
Good luck Chicas!
Make us proud!
