Mari Exits Turkish League

April 5th, 2013

Last Wednesday (April 3rd), Mari underwent a successful surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. She is now recovering at a hospital in Rio de Janeiro and will be discharged either today or this weekend.

Aside from the ligament problem, doctors also found a bone edema in the same area.

The surgery lasted for four hours and full recovery is 6 months or longer.

Mari tweets…

“Thank God everything went well! Now comes another time, not less painful, but it demands a lot of patience and dedication. Hours and hours of physiotherapy are ahead in order to recover my movements as quickly as possible”,

Have a speedy recovery Mari!

A friend in need is a friend in deed….

“I am very happy to have her with me.” says Mari on her longtime teammate, Paula Pequeno, who is also playing with her in Turkey for Fenerbahce.

Also, check out this very touching fan video dedicated to Mari which features her fans and also teammates, including Sheilla who has well wishes for her friend (forward to 3:37).

Here’s a video of Mari talking about her injury.

OMG!

It’s one of those weird and strange volleyball landings.

The diagnosis?

Mari injured the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and medial meniscus in her left knee.

This is really sad.

Be Strong Mari!

UPDATE: Our source says that it’s a serious injury and Mari’s 2012/2013 season with Fenerbahce comes to an abrupt END.

***

It’s not official yet that she’s done this season but it looks like it…

No confirmation yet from Fenerbahce but the 2008 Olympic gold medalist was taken to the hospital after hurting her knee during the 1st set in their match against Sokolova and Team Eczacıbaşı VitrA which the latter won in straight sets.

Mari suffers another blow to go with other personal and physical issues she has faced within the last year or so.

She just can’t get a break!

We’re really sad for her. She has been trying to get back in shape and then this injury happened. We hope it’s not serious and we pray she recovers in due time.

But with these pics below, her season with Fenerbahce seems over.

Força Mari!
