After being away for 5 months, two time Olympic Champion Thaisa Menezes makes a successful return to volleyball with a victory in the first round of the Brazilian Superliga.
The middle blocker had surgeries in both knees.
In an article released by the FIVB, the 28 year old is happy that she’s back but reveals she still has a long way to go.
“I was apprehensive and anxious.
I recalled my first game when I was 16 and debuted in the Superliga. Usually the girls ask for my help, but today it was I who needed it.
I’m still not even at 50 per cent of where I was, especially in terms of rhythm, speed and range attack. I have to be patient because getting back to my best will have to be a natural process. About four months ago, I had to re-learn how to walk.”
In case you didn’t know, Thaisa plays for Osasco together with other Brazilian national team players like setter Dani Lins, middle blocker Adenizia and libero Camila. The team also has Cuban spiker Kenia Carcases and Belgian superstar Lise Van Hecke.
