Osmany Leaves Trentino

We reported about this a few months ago when it was just a rumor but now…

It’s OFFICIAL!

Cuban turned Italian citizen Osmany Juantorena will officially leave Trentino Volley after the current season. Despite rumors earlier that he’d stay in Italy for another season or two, Os has made up his mind and will play in Russia during the 2012/2013 season.

As of press time, there’s a rumor that the multi-awarded outside hitter will play for Zenit Kazan with a reported contract worth $2 MILLION DOLLARS!

Trentino’s Diego Mosna has released an official statement about Os’ departure:

“Osmany mi ha comunicato oggi la decisione di non vestire la maglia della Trentino Volley nel corso della prossima stagione agonistica; una scelta che non mi ha colto di sorpresa anche se naturalmente il dispiacere è grande. Mi sono permesso di parlare a lui a nome di tutta la Società e di tutti i tifosi riconoscendo a Juantorena i giusti meriti per quanto sin qui fatto per la squadra in questi anni trascorsi a Trento. Osmany mi ha riferito che non ha accettato alcuna offerta italiana perché non vuole giocare contro la Trentino Volley; ha quindi deciso di scegliere un’importante opportunità proveniente dall’estero. Le porte della Trentino Volley saranno comunque sempre aperte per un suo ritorno e questo gliel’ho voluto ribadire di persona.”

Diego is pretty much sad that Os decided to leave despite negotiating with him to stay.

As for what we think of Juantorena’s decision well here’s what we can say…

Let’s face it! Os is not getting younger. Eventually, he will decide to retire, settle down and focus on his family. In order for him to not worry on his family life when he retires, he needs lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$. Obvious to say, money played a huge part in Os’ transfer.

As for Trentino, the team will never be the same without Os. He’s irreplaceable. He’s the best player out there in the professional circuit – no doubt about that! We can totally understand the disappointment in Mr. Mosna’s part but for sure he can find someone strong enough to take Osmany’s spot.

Trentino pretty much created the reputation Osmany has today. If not for this team, we believe Os won’t become one of the world’s best, most popular and highest paid athletes.

As for Os, we wish you the best  BB as you seek for greener pastures!
