No wonder she is such a GREAT ATHLETE!
2 time Olympic gold medalist and defending Olympic champion, Kerri Walsh, recently revealed to stream.wsj.com on how she is training for 3rd Olympic appearance in London.
“After my pregnancies my body was completely different. My joints felt loose. My muscles felt stretched out. My sleep was off and my energy changed. Taking care of two young boys is a workout in itself. But I figured it was a good time to mold myself and become stronger than ever.” according to Kerri in an article by Jen Murphy.
Some of the interview highlights are:
1. She started going to a brain training program in Los Angeles with Neurotopia. “My training has always focused on physical agility but brain training helps sharpen my mental agility as well.” says Kerri, a mother of 2.
2. Kerri and her longtime beach partner, Misty May-Treanor, head to the beach to play 4 to 5 a week for 2-3 per day. The and her partner play volleyball on the beach four to five days a week for two to three hours a day. The session includes passing, setting, and hitting drills which is then followed by a match against each other or with coaches.
3. To help her performance on the sand, Kerri does beach workouts which include push-ups, squats and other exercise routines using the TRX Suspension Trainer, a set of nylon resistance straps. Kerri improves flexibility and strengthens her core muscles by doing Pilates 2 to 3 days a week.
4. As for her diet, a multigrain waffle with agave syrup or almond butter and a banana or blueberries for breakfast while lunch consists of salad with salmon and goat cheese. Kerri also makes sure she eats a protein bar half an hour after each workout. She also consumes lots of veggies and when the urge is there she doesn’t stop herself from eating chocolates and lattes.
5. Kerri also works out with her husband, Casey Jennings. “When we were dating we’d work out together and it was a great way to get to know him. Now that we have kids we have to alternate our workouts more.” per Kerri who listens to mellow music or songs by the Black Eyed Peas.

Knowing it’s going to be the last Olympics we are going to see Kerri and Misty together, we wish them the BEST in London and we have a feeling they’ll make history in London by winning their 3rd consecutive gold medal.
