Oh politics!
Last Sunday (June 8th), Vietnamese and Philippine troops displayed unity by playing beach volleyball together on a disputed island located in the South China Sea.
Aside from beach volleyball, the troops drank beer, sang, danced, played soccer and tug-of-war.
As expected, such get together did not please China at all who was obviously not invited to the party due to a territorial tension versus those 2 countries.
Last Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying has released this statement:
“Don’t you think this small move together by Vietnam and the Philippines is at most a clumsy farce?. China has irrefutable sovereignty over the Spratly Islands and the seas nearby. … We demand that Vietnam and the Philippines stop any behavior that picks quarrels and causes trouble … and not do anything to complicate or magnify the dispute.”
China vs Vietnam: China recently placed a massive oil rig near the disputed Paracel Islands off Vietnam’s coast.
China vs Philippines: China claims the Spratly Islands are an “indisputable” part of Chinese territory.
If each dispute goes to a 5th set, we wonder who will win.
Hah!
On a serious note, we hope all countries involved will resolve all the drama.
