BREAKING NEWS: Dutch Federation Fires Coach Selinger!
As of today, the women’s national team is seeking for a new coach and their future is unclear on who is going to guide them at the upcoming 2012 Olympic Qualification Tournament. The reason of Selinger’s exit is obviously clear – poor results in the last 2 years since winning the silver medal at the 2009 European Champs.
Team captain, Manon Flier, who is in Morocco to support and cheer for her boyfriend, Reinder Nummerdor, has released this statement:
”None of my teammates see this coming. I’m totally surprised. I planned to continue the London-project with Selinger.”
Manon’s long time teammate, Kim Staelens, has also released this:
”I fear them. I did not expect this. This is as true for me overnight. That’s not at all during the EC been dealt with us. I do not like it fine, but in November we have a tournament. I find it strange to suddenly someone else for the group to turn.”
Seriously, we’re shocked with this news. We were hoping the Federation would keep Avital until the final qualification tournament & lead the team to win a spot at the 2012 Olympics. We honestly think that his absence will affect Netherlands’ chances of playing in London.
However, we remain optimistic for Manon and Team.
As far as who will replaced Selinger, sources say it could either be Teun Buijs (1988 Olympian) or Bert Goedkoop (head coach of the Netherlands women’s national volleyball team when it took the 1995 European Championship).
Stay tuned for more updates.

We hate to say this but Coach Selinger’s system is NOT working for The Netherlands.
So the Dutch team won the 2007 World Grand Prix and a silver medal at the 2009 European Championship but since then his team has been hit a string of unfortunate tournaments. Flier and Team finished 4th at the 2009 Grand Prix, 7th at the 2010 Grand Prix, 11th at the 2010 World Champs, failed to qualify for the 2011 Grand Prix and as far as we know the Dutch squad has been denied a spot for the 2012 GP since they didn’t finish in the Top 4 of the ongoing 2011 European Champs.
Maybe it’s time to replace the Coach and inject a new breed of young players?
RESTART & REBUILD!
Don’t get us wrong, we love the current players like Blom, Huurman, Chaine and Kim Staelens just to name a few but they have been on the team for so long and they are NOT as good as 5 years ago. Seriously, the only player who can effectively score against the world’s best teams is Manon Flier but she hasn’t been that effective lately. Honestly, Manon looked exhausted = ineffective at the 2011 European Champs. She just cannot do it alone – that’s for sure!
Oops! We almost forgot about the gorgeous Debby Stam-Pilon who was injured last season and definitely not in good shape at the moment. Did you see her performance at the Quarterfinal Match against Italy? Terrible. She played her worst just when her team needed her the most. Consequently, she was subbed out.
As far as we know there are a lot of young and talented Dutch players who deserve a chance to be on the team and gain valuable international experience. With the 2012 Olympic Qualification coming up, Coach Avital needs to step up and reevaluate his system before it’s too late!
Due to Selinger’s poor performance, DELA, the team’s major sponsor, plans on not renewing his contract when it expires next year according to a source.
We found these pics by Fotohoogendoorn.nl of Flier and Team after losing to Italy yesterday…
SAD.
We feel really sad and sorry for them.
Anyways, we also found this Dutch article from Telegraaf.NL criticizing Coach Selinger.
Uncle Google Translates:
Opposition calls for departure Selinger
By William Held
But the Volleyball Federation does not plan another prominent avenue to send the employee. Men after coach Peter Blang and director Marcel Sturkenboom, there is no money for more lump sums in the greenhouse. Moreover, Selinger rather appeals to sponsor DELA. Three years ago, the then technical director Joop Alberda Selinger that if he could stay only a few things were different approach. But when the sponsor made sure that the coach could continue. This was ultimately one of the reasons for the departure of Alberda.
Downhill
Selinger proved in 2009 the Dutch volleyball a great service by the first in a new century in a European Championship medal to win. But then it went downhill and it was not only because of the pregnancy game of divide star Kim Staelens. Even the most aanvalsters (Manon Flier and Ingrid Visser excluded) could not Selinger world’s best make. All in all, it seems logical that Selinger’s contract after next year is not extended.
Rejuvenation
This Orange is dramatically rejuvenation and renewal. Especially the older players who do not (anymore) in the starting line, will have to make room for young talent long. Players such as Anne Buijs, Lonneke Sloetjes and Floortje Meijners can, Chaine Staelens are constantly injured, for example, provide more attack power. Even with the attempt to London 2012 will pick up, they can already be of value.
Time to do something Coach! Don’t disappoint us!
We don’t want to see Manon and her teammates crying again!
