This team…
+ LEON = You never know…
With a Polish girlfriend, anything is possible for the Cuban player.
According to his manager, Andrzej Grzyb:
“Wilfredo has been living in Poland and we know that after two years he can apply for the citizenship.
Also, his girlfriend is Polish and everything indicates that he will therefore have a Polish wife, which can also help him with the citizenship. We do not exclude the possibility that Leon will play for Poland one day.
We have talked about it, but the whole process must be initiated by the Polish Volleyball Federation.”
Grzyb also adds that Turkey was interested in Leon but he was not interested.
“The president of Turkish Volleyball Federation has talked to us three times and he tried to convince Leon to play for them. He promised to give Leon Turkish citizenship without losing his Cuban citizenship. Leon refused him and he said that if he has any option he prefers playing for Poland only.”
At least Turkey tried…
In our opinion, we don’t think Poland needs a naturalized player to play on their National Team. They have lots of young and talented homegrown players who have what it takes to help Poland attain success in the continental and international world of men’s volleyball.
But again, it’s all up to Leon and the Federation.
It’d be cool to see him at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics knowing that he has never played in the Olympics.
For now, Wilfredo is getting in shape to play for Russian club team Zenit Kazan in the upcoming season.
Thoughts?
