The last thing we heard was that you were going to play again but it seems like you’ve changed your mind.
In an article released by www.russiavolley.com, the 5 time Olympian clarifies that at the moment she has NO plans of playing with the National Team mainly because of her current physical condition:
“I did not think about it because we have not talked to the head coach Yuri Marichev.
Russia has a close-knit team and I think that it is necessary to move forward. I’ve been asked a few times and I will help the team if my current form allows me to.
The question has been raised but there’s has never been an answer. Coach and I decided that we will only make the decision closer to when they start the training camp. My decision will be based on the state of my health and on the situation – whether it is necessary for me to be on the team.”
We have so much love and respect for the 37 year old. As much as we want her to represent Russia again, I think she is absolutely right that she should only be allowed to play if she is in good health and if the team really needs her.
By the Gamova, there’s also NO word if Gamova will return.
At the moment, there are a lot of young players out there who have the skills BUT need the experience and the exposure.
The training camp will begin late this month and then the team heads to Turkey for the European Olympic Qualification Tourney from January 4th – 9th.
