Almost a month after her 1 year suspension was announced, Brenda Castillo is now allowed to compete for the upcoming Grand Prix.
Source says:
“It looks like she is OK now but there’s no guarantee she is 100% mentally ready. Brenda’s condition has improved that’s why the Federation decided to reinstate her on the team. Let’s face it, she is one of the world’s best liberos and her team’s chances at the Grand Prix is limited without her.
The source also adds that Brenda will be closely monitored and in case she acts weird again then the Federation will act on it immediately.
For now, welcome back Brenda!

The president of the Dominican Volleyball Federation (FEDOVOLI) Ramon Alexis Garcia said that the national team libero Brenda Castillo, “is not suspended or sanctioned” by the organization, and that she is away from the national team only because the coaching staff had decided like that.
Garcia added that she doesn’t weigh any penalty that prevents her from playing volleyball anywhere, and that the problem is simply located in the Dominican national team. He also said that the situation with the best libero on planet could be reversed, if Castillo start working in regard to her situation, and submit to professional treatment only.
She needs to leave behind the acts of disobedience which had separated her from senior women’s national team.
Garcia made it clear that the FEDOVOLI is willing to cover any expenses for professional fees, to provide Brenda to return soon to the Dominican roster. The FEDOVOLI president, also made clear that he prefers “lost medals” to lack of the discipline and harmony of the women’s national team.

This could be the ONLY way for Brenda to seek the help she needs.
After playing & winning bronze at the recently concluded Montreux Volley Masters Tournament in Switzerland, the Dominican Republic’s volleyball federation has decided to suspend one of the world’s best liberos, Brenda Castillo, for 1 year due to erratic behavior and mental instability.
According to a very reliable source:
“There has been tons of issues with Brenda due to her behavior.
She is a megastar but her personal issues and her erratic behavior are becoming too much to handle for her teammates and for the coaching staff. When Brenda is having a bad day for unknown reasons, she creates a lot of drama & other unnecessary troubles.
The last couple of years have been very tough for her. She suffered a miscarriage last year and even got into a fight with some fans while in Peru for a volleyball tournament.
Remember this?
Brenda hasn’t been emotionally and mentally stable at all. She needs to see a therapist or seek medical treatment before her condition becomes more serious.
Federation President Ramón A. García & President of the Women’s National Team Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz are well informed about the situation and have agreed to suspend her because they strongly believe this is the ONLY way for Brenda to become healthy again.
Both officials believe that keeping Brenda on the team would stop her from getting treatment, will affect the team’s cohesion and will limit the success of the women’s national team.”
The source also adds that there’s a very slim chance for Brenda to return and play at the World Grand Prix.
All we can say is that we hope it all works out for Brenda. She is such an amazing and talented young player who still has a lot of volleyball years ahead of her.
If the people close to her strongly believe that a 1 year suspension will help her, then let it be.
As for the National Team, the show must go on and they will head to Peru this Saturday for the 2013 Pan American Cup.
Any thoughts?
