She made her Senior National Team debut at the age of 13.
At 14 years old, Melissa Vargas has been awarded as Cuba’s Best Player of 2013.

Juvenile spiker Melissa Vargas celebrates her election as the best player of the year by the Cuban Volleyball Federation.
Vargas, 14 years old, was chosen due to her performance in competitions such as the U-20 Pan American Cup, NORCECA games in the United States and China tournament.
In the continental U-20 event the player, original from the province of Cienfuegos was chosen as the best in service, in the regional finals played in Nebraska she highlighted as spiker and in the “Asian Giant” was the revelation of the tournament.
The award was given by the board of the Cuban Federation during the opening of the sixth edition of the Cerro Pelado Cup, which will end on December 20 at the National Volleyball School.
It was also unveiled the most remarkable players of the season, list which included Rosanna Giel, Rolando Cepeda, Javier Jiménez, Inovel Romero and Keibel Gutiérrez, and beach volleyball players Karel Peña, Sergio González, Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez.
