The moment we read the news, we felt really, really sad. Why? The 2008 Olympic Champion and MVP is one of the nicest and most humble volleyball players we have ever met. For him to retire completely from the sport, it’s just one those news you know it’s going to happen but you don’t want to hear it. You feel us?
Clay and his family plan to move back to Hawaii so he can work at his family’s flooring business. The 38 year old and his wifey, Kristin, will soon welcome their second child.
“We reached a level with my knee that we couldn’t get past. If I can’t be ready to play right now then I’ve got to shut it down. We did everything we could and that’s that.” -Clay
In case you didn’t know, the last time Clay played for Team USA was at the 2012 Olympics.
Clayton, thank you so much for all the volleyball memories and for inspiring our generation to become as great as you! We will miss you on the court but also very excited as you begin a new chapter in life with your beautiful family!
