They wanted Olympic gold but Germany’s Julius Brink & Jonas Reckermann took it away from them…
Alison and Emanuel had the right to be very emotional and they wasted no time showing it at the press conference after the gold medal match.
Alison aka The Mammoth says:
“I learned that when you think you can’t do it, you can. When you wake up in the morning with the whole body aching because you work hard, you cant still do it and when you think the game is lost, it’ not lost. I learned that age is no limit. I learned that to be champions the team must have players enjoying playing together and we enjoy playing together. We have a very strong relationship and I trust my partner. I learned that I learn everyday and I will remember these Olympics for the rest of my life because I know that we tried everything possible, we did our best, we tried everything.”
Emanuel (Leila Barros’ husband) says:
“Alison is an athlete who has shown me a strong desire of being different and during all our training he always tried to be what he is today. I think his “power” is the will power he has a great desire to be a champion, to be victorious and it can be seen at any time. If you look at him on the court you will see he is decided to win and this decision, this will motivated me a lot in these three years.”
Watch This:
As of press time, the 2011 FIVB World Champions are not sure if they will continue their partnership for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. One factor to consider is that Emanuel will be 43 by then. Emanuel has already collected all kinds of Olympic medals, Gold in 2004, Silver in 2012 and Bronze in 2000.
But wait!
Didn’t Alison say “age is no limit”?
Come on Emanuel! Give Rio a shot! We’d love to see you there!
