Egypt surely knows how to dominate in the African zone!
Mr. MVP Ahmed Salah Abdelhay led his team to win a highly contested match against Cameron in 4 sets. Knowing that they missed the 2011 World League due to the political turmoil in their country earlier this year, Egypt made it clear they are indeed the Kings of Africa. This victory grants Egypt a trip to Japan in November for the 2011 FIVB World Cup.
Watch Egypt’s Golden Moment:
According to the FIVB, Egypt’s victory generated lots of tributes in the region:
“The first reaction was from the Egyptian Ministry of Youth, which decided through the Head of the Sports Council of the Ministry, Hassan Saqur, to double the prize money for the winners. A high-level delegation from the ministry will be waiting Sunday for the team to arrive in Cairo from Morocco, where they played in the 10-day competition that was settled with a 3-1 victory over Cameroon in the final.
The Egyptian newspapers gave the news major coverage, especially in the main daily newspapers Akhbar, Ahram and Gomhuria, with the victory being described as one of the top sporting achievements in the last three decades.
The Egyptian media also described the major role of team ace Ahmed Salah Abdelhay, who was named MVP for the second time, together with the skills of setter Abdalla Ahmed, who maintained his role as the team maestro.
The competition showed a record of number of media covered the event, including about 20 local media and 32 other media from the participating teams. In addition, a number of radio and TV channels covered the event with daily programs and broadcasting of the press conferences.”
