Coach Hugh Reveals His 14

Finally! The wait is over!

Coach Hugh really knows how to get us all excited by revealing his final lineup a day or 2 before a major tournament, ie the 2011 World Cup. While teams like Brazil and Serbia  already revealed their final 14-player roster weeks ago, USA Volleyball  stayed quiet and kept teasing us on who would play at the prestigious tournament.

Finally, the roster is out a day before the tourney kicks off.

Here’s the roster:

1 – Alisha Glass (S, 6-0, Leland, Mich., Penn State)
2 – Danielle Scott-Arruda (MB, 6-2, Baton Rouge, La., Long Beach State)
3 – Tayyiba Haneef-Park (Opp, 6-7, Laguna Hills, Calif., Long Beach State)
4 – Lindsey Berg (S, 5-8, Honolulu, Hawaii, Minnesota)
6 – Nicole Davis (L, 5-4, Stockton, Calif., Southern California)
7 – Heather Bown (MB, 6-3, Yorba Linda, Calif., Hawaii)
8 – Cynthia Barboza (OH, 6-0, Long Beach, Calif., Stanford)
9 – Jennifer Tamas (MB, 6-4, Milpitas, Calif., Pacific)
11 – Jordan Larson (OH, 6-2, Hooper, Neb., Nebraska)
14 – Tamari Miyashiro (L, 5-7, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Washington)
15 – Logan Tom (OH, 6-1, Salt Lake City, Utah, Stanford)
16 – Foluke Akinradewo (MB, 6-3, Plantation, Fla., Stanford)
18 – Megan Hodge (OH, 6-3, Durham, N.C., Penn State)
19 – Destinee Hooker (Opp, 6-4, San Antonio, Texas, Texas)

There were reports last Friday that Destinee Hooker didn’t travel with the team due to medical reasons  like with her knee. Source says that she was spotted at a volleyball match in Texas & even posed for a pic or two with her fans. As soon as the news erupted, her Facebook Page was bombarded with questions if she was going or not. Hooker never replied to such inquiries and also USAV never released any confirmation if such rumor was true.

Way to milk the attention girl! It really worked! We kid! We kid!

As far as we know she’s already in Japan. Nancy Metcalf traveled with the team but was cut off last minute when Hooker was added to the final roster.

With this roster full of talented players, Team USA can win the 2011 World Cup and qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. Seriously, we’re betting on USA to win together with Brazil. The bronze medal will be highly contested between Serbia, Japan and Germany.

But again – Anything can happen!
