It looks like Serbia’s Coach Terzic has a lot of issues with his players.
After a disappointing exit from Second Round of the ongoing World Championship in Italy, star player and opposite hitter Jovana Brakocevic told the media she was READY TO PLAY but Coach Terzic didn’t use her at all.
A 17 year old lefty, Tijana Bošković, became the starter instead.
Source tells Volleywood:
“Jovana was a bit disappointed with Terzic’s decision. She didn’t play in the Grand Prix so she could rehabilitate her shoulder for the World Championship. Sadly, Jovana spent a lot of time as a bench player. Although Tijana did a great job playing in her first major tournament, Jovana could have played in some matches.”
The source also adds that Jovana has decided to either take a break or leave the National Team for good.
“Her heart is not in it anymore. She needs some time away. As long as Terzic is the coach, I don’t think we will see Jovana playing for Serbia anytime soon.”
Coach Terzic has responded to Jovana’s frustrations saying that Tijana was better prepared that Jovana that’s why he decided to put the 17 year old as the starter.
Setter Maja Ognjenović was quite surprised with Jovana’s sentiments.
“Everyone has the right to do what makes them happy. I think Jovana’s decision to talk to the media was too soon knowing that the coaching staff and the team have not analyzed our performance throughout the competition. Jovana didn’t play much so I can completely understand how she feels, but Tijana Bošković was just great and amazing. “
Maja also added that maybe it’s time to integrate more young players to the team moving forward.
In case you didn’t know, Serbia finished 7th.
May we also add that Coach Terzic got into some drama with Sanja Malagurski who was excluded from the roster for World Champs.
Thoughts?
