SHE NEEDS TO BE THERE!
Sadly, the chances of seeing the great Sokolova playing in her 6th consecutive Olympic appearance is very slim.
It looks like she is NOT healthy at all and she’s getting the care she needs to recover in time.
The 38 year old, who has 2 Olympic silver medals, has announced a few weeks ago that she has retired from professional volleyball but did not mentioned her plans with the National Team.
Per National Team rep Vladislav Fadeev:
“Sokolova has refused to play for the National Team and will not play at the Olympics. However,we will continue to negotiate with her hoping that she will change her mind last minute. She has serious health problems and so she could not play right now.
Sokolova will take a break and receive medical treatment before going back to this topic with us.
She has passed a medical examination for the national team but at the same she remains in contact with the coaching staff.”
The team needs her in Rio.
Sokolova has the experience and can guide her teammates when the going gets tough.
