Kim Yeon Koung & Korea Eliminated From World Championship

Korea went home earlier than we expected.

Winning 1 match against Trinidad and Tobago was NOT enough for Kim and South Korea to advance to the Second Round of the World Championship hosted by Japan. Kim and team lost their first 4 matches against Thailand (2-3), Azerbaijan (1-3), USA (1-3) and Russia (0-3) before demolishing Trinidad in 3 sets in the last day of Round 1.

At the press conference, Kim mentioned that if they had won their match against Thailand then they may have had the chance to advance to Round 2.

“Through all the games in this tournament we have done well. If we had beaten Thailand in the first game, all of the games would have been different from the results we have.”

Their head coach also shared his disappointment to the press.

“This is the biggest competition and we could not reach the required results and I am sorry for that. We found some right combinations with the players and this result has given us some pride.”

What’s next for Kim?

The MVP of the 2012 Olympics will take a few days off before she flies to Turkey to join her new club team – Eczacıbaşı Vitra Volleyball. Kim’s club teammates include 2016 Olympic silver medalist Tijana Boskovic, Jordan Larson and Lauren Gibbemeyer.

Good luck Kimmie!!!
