No Fighting This Time!
1999 World Cup: Cuba 3-0 Brazil: Cuba won the Gold, Russia took home the Silver and Brazil finished the tourney with a Bronze medal. Each team also booked a ticket to the 2000 Sydney Olympics with the same result. During the 1999 World Cup, Aguero debuted her powerful jump serves and ended up winning the Best Server award and was also named as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Set 1: The 1999 World Cup was Ana Moser’s final major international tournament. She retired in 2000 before the Olympics and was replaced by the young Erika Coimbra.
Set 2: Despite the absence of Torres and Luis, the Cubans didn’t lose any of the 11 matches they played. We think they only dropped one set throughout the tournament and that was against China.
Set 3: When we watch this match, we start to miss Bell, Ruiz, Fernandez, Virna and Leila.
Out of all the players on the court, only Aguero and Fofao have remained active and are currently playing in the world’s most prestigious leagues: Aguero plays for Cortese in Italy and Fofao in Turkey with Fenerbahce.
